"Airways" pioneered Express Delivery Courier Services in Jamaica in 1972, delivering time-sensitive, confidential inter-office documents and reports daily by air for the Banking Industry between the data centers and the rural branches The "Bank Run" developed into a community service that transported documents for most major banks in Jamaica for more than 20 consecutive years.

The insight and experience gained from the transportation of "clearings" provided the vision for providing a similar service for Jamaican companies and individuals on a retail basis. In 1992, the brand name Airpak Express was developed to market an island-wide, door-to-door, same day delivery service for documents and packages.

Offices were opened in Kingston, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Mandeville, May Pen, Negril and Savanna-la-Mar. A full range of service and delivery options and a simplified, economical rate structure were developed for optimum customer convenience.

The Airpak standards of speed, timeliness and accuracy were developed on the same foundation as our aviation parentage. The reliability and confidentiality objectives were based on the same standards required by the Banking Industry.

Intra-island deliveries formed the basis of the business plan, and the focus of the first six years was on maximizing our domestic services. However, linkages with international courier services were established in the early days for the convenience of our customers.

In 1995 Airpak Express Ltd. was incorporated as a Limited Liability Company in response to the growing demands of customers’ needs and infrastructure requirements.

The staff complement has grown from 17 employees in 1992 to over 105 in March 2000. The service utilizes 4 fixed wing aircraft that are owned and operated by Airways International Ltd., and over 30 Airpak road vehicles that deliver packages within the individual service areas.

In 1998, Airpak Express Ltd. expanded its range of services into the international arena when it became the exclusive United Parcel Service (UPS) representative in Jamaica, providing seamless local and international Express Delivery Services to and from more than 200 countries worldwide.
